US v. Google redux: all the news from the ad tech trial

Google and the Department of Justice once again faced a trial whether Google has a monopoly in the advertising technology market. The trial began in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia in the last fall, and on April 17, 2025, Judge Brinkma ruled that Google had worked illegally to achieve and maintain monopoly power in the online advertisement.

The DOJ argued that Google has unfairly closed the market for advertising tech tools, which publishers and advertisers rely on making money from their websites and marketing their goods. Google replied that it developed efficient products that work well for consumers and said it had a large part of competition.

This partial loss for Google has come before a different judge with the help of a historic decision in favor of the government in a different dissenting case against Google. There, a DC District Court judge ruled that Google illegally made the online search market monopolized. Therefore, when the advertising tech case is over, the government is requesting ground tremors to restore the search competition simultaneously.
