CD Projekt Red tried to redesign Geralt’s face once, and it backfired horribly

The hero of the Sports Vachar Series had a nearly different face of Geralett. He did in reality, but the sports community disliked it so much that the CD project Red was nervous and changed it back.

Issue? Physical accuracy. The community did not feel that the Geralett stranger was looking or ugly.

It was 2010 and CD Project Red was ready to debut in the world, the Kings ‘killers, the Kings’ killers. A couple of leaked videos before the formal announcement eventually released a flag of screenshots, debuted a different visible Geralat in which people were used by Vacher 1.

While Geralett had a triangle proportion, which almost Almost, which wandered to a point on his nose, and it seemed that it did not include any kind of chin, now he had more easily proportionate than his eyes and he looked like a real person. Even he was, dared to dare, I was beautiful. It just won’t.

Some of them were expected. The transfer from Vacher 1 to Vacher 2 also included a transfer to the game engine, which is transmitted from the bioer’s aura engine, which once empowered Neon Winter Nights, the CD Project Red internally manufactured in Redjin. The face design that worked well in an engine will not necessarily work in both.

“The problem was that Vacher 1 was stalled heavy,” CD Project Red Art Director Paul Melkzok explained to me. “From the point of art, it was a very simple visual loyalty compared to Vacher 2 and Vacher 3.

He said, “When we approached Vachar 2, we had a better engine – a big budget for multi -faceted, more artists to make a sculpture of good faces, and we really got better to make the role, already a studio that had released a game and did not have the right (current) face.” “It was not a realistic human proportion.”

The solution was obvious: Re -design Jarlat’s face. “Let’s make a jernet from the beginning – no one will pay attention to it,” said Melaniczuk, and laughed at memories. “So we made it at the beginning of Vacher 2 Production and we released it with this first group of screenshots to see that the response was, and the reaction was terrible! Our community just broke us on the forums – there were almost riots.”

A clean shave -shaved white man sticks to the camera. She is hidden in the leather armor a little and is equipped with two swords on her back. He has yellow eyes like a cat. This is a bloody attitude jerrent.

Sadly, I can no longer find these riots on the forums of these companies. 15 years of cheater have been buried. But Melkzok told me the comments that he had influences: “True Jerrent: He is considered ugly and inhuman!” The CD project withdrew as a result of the Redback Lash, and will take another two years tinkering, and testing and re -evaluating the Jerrent’s shape for this game properly. “And Vacher 1 was the hybrid of Gerald and a real human being.”

When Vacher 3 came around the development, around 2011-2012, the opportunity once again presented itself in front of the tinker with the face of Geralett, but this time the studio resisted. “With Vacher 3, we, in fact, used the same model of Vachar 2, adding more multi -digit, the latest texture, but we did not touch it.”

This does not mean that Melkzok didn’t want to change the face of Geralett for the third game. He was the main character artist at The Vacher 3. “If you look at the Jerrent’s profile: it has an incredible profile but the tip of his nose is a straight line from his forehead, a type of Greek ratio, and it was not appropriate, so we wanted to fix it. But we didn’t.” “We decided, ‘Well, this is Jerrent, they are recognizable, people are loved by our role. We pass. We can’t make this mistake again.”

Which brings us around Vacher 4, which is now in the entire production and we know that Jerlat will be added to some extent. The new game series will also move in a new engine, unrealistic engine 5, so once again the jarlat face will have the opportunity to re -design. Will CD Project Red take it?

Vacher 2 is showing a white haired man in a leather coach moving towards the art camera, while there is a fight behind them. His sword has been drawn. This is a jerk of Rivia and she is not happy.

“This is such a fundamental role right now,” said Melaniczuk. I will not really dare to touch it. ” “And in general, this is a very successful character because its face is recognizable, perhaps even because of these features of inhuman proportion in the upper part of the body. So, not me, just adding more details, usual maps, more details on the face, making realistic through surfaces, but not through anatomy and proportion.”

But there is one thing that can persuade Melkzok to update Jarlat’s face, or a person, and that Henry Cuue, who is a former star on the Vachar Netflix TV show. Melkzok is a great fan of this. He said, “Henry was perfect. Then he laughed and added:” If I do something with the face, I will easily be convinced to scan Henry and put it in Vitcher 4! “

As part of a series of interviews, I talked to Paul Melkzok, who looked at Vacher 3, a decade from the eyes of the people made by him. Now you can find the whole piece on Urugamar.
