- Experts have warned that there are millions of game -based malware variations
- Hackers attract gamers with loaders, cracks, special materials and more promises
- GTA, Mine Craft, and COD include the most used titles
Experts have warned that the Grand Stolen Auto (GTA), Mine Craft, Call of Duty (COD), and other famous sports are being abused left and right to distribute malware to the General Z Gaming community.
A report by Caspersky’s CyberScureti researchers claimed between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025, claiming that more than 19 million attempts were made to download malicious files based on famous gaming titles.
Overall, it believes that about 400 400,000 people will be affected worldwide, many of them are young concerts.
GTA, Mine Craft, Credit Democracy, Sims All Hit
Kaspersky says the danger actor is going to older sports with big, promoted communities.
The GTAV was published more than a decade ago, but thanks to its ability to edit its open world, it is still very famous. In fact, it has sold more than 215 million copies worldwide, making it the highest selling video game ever.
Researchers detected about 4.5 4.5 million attacks containing files in disguise of GTA -related content.
The fact is that the GTA is around the corner (it is expected to be released in 2026) only promotes the problem, as the Hape, which is going to release, will certainly be abused to distribute fake installers, early access, and beta invitations.
Mine Craft, another very popular title, ranks second with 4.1 million attack efforts. Like the GTA, the attacks were mostly operated by the widespread modification of the game through environmental systems and sustainable popularity. COD is third with 2.6 million attacks, followed by Sims with 2.4 million.
Hackers are usually victimized by forums, social media groups, and quick messaging chats and channels.
They promote cracks, loaders, various methods and adventures, which often become infoastilers, cryptocurrency hijackers, backdoors and trojins. Caspersky urges the gamers to refrain from downloading the pirate content, and remain skeptical of cheap, rare skins, or various bonus promises.
