GM says new battery chemistry will enable 400-mile range EVs

General Motors is working with LG to produce lithium manganese (LMR) batteries for its electric trucks and SUVs. The new chemistry is more safe, more energy -dense, and less expensive than current technology, the automated maker says.

GM aims to become the first automaker to deploy LMR batteries in EV, which plans to start trade production in the United States by 2028. Last month, Ford announced that she would start adopting LMR batteries for her EV, but not until 2030.

“We like to joke that it’s cheaper like dirt,” says Andrew Ary, a GM battery engineer.

The current crop of GM uses high nickel batteries of electric shivs and cadelox, which provides enough energy to a extent of about 300-320 miles.
