Johann Pilusad, director of Haldures 2, believes the game developers are spending a lot of time on balance and not enough time on entertainment.
There is no doubt that the balance in direct service sports is one of the most cowardly topics, which leads to a large scale dedicated patch for Nerfs and buffaloes in an attempt to make the experience suitable for all players with titles such as Diablo 4, miracle rivals, and overwatch.
However, Pilestt argued that a perfectly balanced game is an illusion that is unable to chase savings for a small percentage of development time.
Addressing the Game Developers Conference 2025 panel, which was attended by Games Radar+, Pilusad presented the issue of minimal balance updates in favor of exciting game design.
He said, “Balance is a fiction. First entertainment, later balance.” “Nowadays game designers are in balance. The balance is 5 % of the work you should do. This is a game design polish. If you start thinking about balance and use it as a success method, you are stupid.
“Balance is not a game design. The game design is about experience. If you balance all the chaos, you have made an interesting game. Balance is to polish this, and if you make it too smooth, it will be just a non -experience.”
Although the pilot here seems to be very restless, Haldurers 2 are included in many online games that have been struggling to find harmony between balance and entertainment since launch.
Game Director Michael Erickson told Gamesradar+ in December that the game was a “roller coaster” from the launch of the game, despite the “privileged” to continue the aero head.
Meanwhile, Pilestt has attributed several game balance patch to “more than anything”.
Despite trying to fix it twice, Haldures 2 still shows a bug of chaos that lets you rotate like a snake, and after the latest update, “this is even more humorous”.
