igf The purpose of the (independent sports festival) is to encourage innovation in the game development and recognize the independent game developers that advance the medium. This year, the game developer sat down with the IGF’s Novo Award and the finalist of the Simas McKenley Grand Prize To discover themes, design decisions, and tools behind each entry before the GDC. There are siblings organizations under the Game Developer and GDC Information.

Nouvo award nominated Individuality in the dead internal period: Flip an anti -Big Tech asset shulw ware r̶a̶n̶t̶ manifesto A living digital museum and an explore are debatable that takes the player through the developer’s views on the current route of tech and art.

The game developer spoke with the game creator Nathli La Head, to discuss what he attracts on social media about his ideas and tech and art restrictions and turns them into a game, with the unique force that the conversation really has to contact anyone, and to have a game.

Who are you, and what was your role in development Individuality in the dead internal period: Flip an anti -Big Tech asset shulw ware r̶a̶n̶t̶ manifesto?

I am a solo developer that makes experimental software and games. My job has been around, including a popular game of mine, Everything is going to be fineMaking it in a permanent reservoir of the MOMA in New York.

Last year, I started lecturing for various events. One of the topics in my public speech is that social media privatized the Internet, and how it has affected our own creative freedom on the computer.

This is a long -standing concern for me because computers started as such as equality where (straightforward) can make and distribute it, transmitted permanently to today’s tech vision where we have all these walls of gardens and private platforms that are really limited.

The social media layer on the Internet, and the type of the Internet that we now use the most, have led to a positive social change, but I am afraid that this positive is being shaded by the empowerment of remote fundamentalism and fascism. Under the shadow of AI and monopolies, there is a lot of uncertainty about the future of the tech (and any person’s space).

My hope of converting some of these interaction points into an interactive article was that it would probably reach a different crowd that usually doesn’t care about reading lengthy articles. This too! It was interesting to follow her.

If we challenge these things as an artist, we encourage people to believe in the better vision of the future. Art is the largest drain to affect social change. I believe it is the same for sports.

If we have these movements to “keep politics away from sports” or attack backward voices, or anything … then you have to recognize the other side of the coin that there is something about sports that can affect social change. The game is a kind of art that is deeply meaningful in digital landscapes. In my view, even if there is a negative friction, artists need it.

How individualism in the dead internet age challenges technocapitalism and ‘the things we lost along the way.’

What is your background in making a game?

I started as a net artist in the late 90s and eventually ended in sports because the “game” became an umbrella term to surround all interactive art on the computer.

How did you come with your imagination? Individuality in the dead internal period: Flip an anti -Big Tech asset shulw ware r̶a̶n̶t̶ manifesto?

Interactive articles – Using sports for critical theory or documentary – has been one thing for a long time. These are like beautiful experiences Medotoski’s closetAbout a digital art piece Day NikkiOr experiences such as The last survey These are more of a narrative article. The intersection between personal experiences and sports is strong.

What attracts me is that being in the game can be more surrounded by fiction. You can use them to clarify the effective topics that are deeply meaningful for players. The ultimate result is more personal to this person than that if they read only one article about you.

Shortly after, someone “writing about music is equivalent to dancing about architecture” when I was talking about making games an effective way to talk about sports, and I love this comparison. There is a lot of room for medium growing. I think looking for sports criticism, critical theory, and “playable” articles is a clear thing. When you are talking about what is “I”, it certainly affects people.

Which development tools were used to build your game?

I used unrealistic. The itching page sarcastically features: “Pediatic theories about tech feudalism with good shader work, and good reflection grip.

I wanted to use something that is usually associated with high sincere AAA -type sports, using all the latest engine offers, as it is suitable for the aesthetics of such AAA for which this aesthetic represents. The mainstream has always been allocated to quirky, punk and sub -culture aesthetics. It seemed that the contrary was an interesting statement as a way to pack criticism of capitalism.

What challenges and/or interesting possibilities have emerged from the idea of presenting your thoughts on this topic as a game -worth experience? Felt to make an article player to make that he could live and discover only one of the words?

I think if you package you can pack what you are saying in an interesting way. Digital art is a place of great possibility. The Internet is divided into a type of text, audio, or video groups, but computers can take more. The game is the intersection of all these things, and there is a place to find out how articles can be seen in the context of a game.

I think it is interesting to say that in many ways of streamers and YouTube, online text -based shops have become more popular. YouTubers often transform these messages into their videos, and people will rarely see and rarely look for writing. The video delivery platform is more interesting. It is a common to make, but I think it is a grip on how people use the content online.

After this tanjant, I wondered if a video game would be just as effective. Will people accept an article about it for “playing”? If it looks interesting and high quality, will it attract people?

Individuality in the dead internet era You are designed to do something by letting the environment explain the words. Links for various articles offer tanjant, or rabbit holes, in which you may fall, all of which are the example of game points.

We need more sports articles. This is an amazing shape!

What ideas did in forming experience? In creating a museum -like environment that guides the player through history and your ideas, while freedom also allows them to ignore this path and follow their desires.

I am saving the bundle of “free for months” from the epic game store, where developers give these expensive beautiful assets free.

I am generally, and only on the personal artistic level, against the use of my job other others’ assets. There is a notoriety in which I am stupid. I think the gamers will think that it is something that leaves me behind. I decided that I would like to go fully in this direction that I am considered “prohibited” to comment on the tech culture. This turned out to be interesting because this level is the level of self -awareness and self -pursuit.

Things have been accelerated so that you can “collect” parts of the article, as it is a visit to the museum, while keeping them in front of these assets, or watch the links in the display windows.

Understanding that the players will be players and some will go through the whole thing, I kept in mind to make it so that it could be stupid and strange. You can really avoid the “museum” and go into falsehood if you want. It is a very strange and strange one in the world to discover it.

Did you play in the game out loud, colorful, different, dynamic places of chaos? How did you choose many, many different visual elements in this game? Are there elements of creative wildwest that had the initial internet how did you create this game?

Individuality in the dead internet era Made to be like a museum, so you have these throwbacks to have old Internet art and old desktop elements that give all the example of how vibrant our online culture is. Some of it are almost worked to be al -Qaeda in the world … as if you were suddenly hit by a stick with an old smiling face, you feel yourself looking for old Windows 3D maze screen saver while listening to yourself about AI and social media.

The results felt a kind of hunting. I think the reason for this is that these familiar elements use the same context as you are looking for a lost past.

A large screen showing dynamic -secured documents and a big mouse icon

What unique ideas and challenges have created this work? By using third party assets?

It was really difficult to pack the audio in such a way that the players would get it all, they would get it within the order, while letting the player feel free to go wherever they want.

I have never used third party assets to the extent before. It was beautiful to introduce the creators of the assets to this generous place, which presented many of their work, as such an end melted in other people’s sports. Even if you work alone, the development of the game is in collaboration with nature.

I really wanted to highlight this task without losing it in the background.

The exaggerated use of third -party assets plays a major role in giving voice to the text. Its construction definitely appreciated me more than the creators of assets, or like these movements in sports Looted Where the games are made of identified stolen pieces that are changed again to become something else. Other media have a lot of it, such as a culture of sampling in music, or collagling to make zine.

It was a deliberate decision to use other people’s assets-then the assets were re-included in the context that is criticizing the current AI’s current tech culture … when a major criticism of the AI is that the learning models are settled through “stolen work”. It challenges my own suffering around ownership, justice and copyright. How do I different as an artist using these assets? Am I hypocritical, or am I being “destructive”?

You have also made a lot of thinking in the itching of the game, the itching of the game, and the language. What specific elements felt important to the game store page, and what did you draw from the language to pull the language about the game about the game and the visual sincerity/effects?

The title is the best explanation. This is a bundle of chaos that has been tried by popular culture about sports. This is an asset back, which is a strong insult. This is a shovel, about which players complain. Because the word rent has been crossed, it is a manifesto, for the importance of itself!

In the beginning, I think self -awareness is a good interpretation on itself. The fact is that it is very much criticized on the capitalist system as it is built in the unrealistic engine, and is also an amazing self -criticism, arrogant about using all the latest hours and whistles. It criticizes the AI while also using the context of the context again. The comment wheel is rotating, so is it a serious job? It is really strange with being extremely critical, while making fun of itself.

The current culture of technology, technocypelism, which has been mixed with good food of dead Internet … All these key words … Today is so dark, it is almost ridiculous in a ridiculous way. I hope that people will find the funny of all this.
