2020 was a time. A famous time for gaming, if nothing else. The world was in the lockdown, the day was fading together, and our social life was moving towards the size of a discarded call. But if there was something that kept us in some signs of happiness, it was the video game. And, if we say anything for 250 hours between us, that is, I was a little determined.
There is a hilarious and disturbing thing about how a cultural glue became between us. We were all stuck inside, looking for ways to connect, and just accused of killing our close friends on the plane The feeling was born. And when I never want to live up to 2020 (because, you know, reasons), I can’t deny that I remember a strange old one for that.
At that time, I was not a journalist in the games. Only one fresh journalism is roaming the world with grade, degree and zero plans. I played among us not to criticize it but to be present in it. Being a part of something when everything outside felt as if it was being separated. There was no hot, nor a deep diver mechanical analysis. Just vibration
So, now, in 2025, when I boot it again, it was not to see what changed. It was to chase a feeling.
New character, new maps, the same old cheating
Jumping between us after five years is like stepping into a childhood house that has been re -formed. Everything feels familiar, but is different enough to be disturbed. Now its roles are – engineers, scientists, and guardian angels (among others) who add new tricks to each brain sports and timid tactics. The days of just lying to your teeth are over. Now, you have to calculate the new mechanics, which makes people more delicious.
Mushroom map is also a journey (literally and symbolically). This is still the biggest map, full of strange, shining cookies and strange hidden places that make navigating and fraud even more entertaining. It was fun to run around the spaceship, was sure, but when the boolomenicant passing through the jungle is trying to avoid a shop shifter? This is cinema.
I respect evolution, but I have to confess, I lack simplicity. There was something pure about throwing accusations on the basis of nothing but gut feeling. Now, you have scientists have proven innocence with vitals and engineers as they are roaming like their little boys.
The same, but different
Playing between us in 2025 does not capture the raw, frustrated social energy of 2020. There is no Kamradi infected with pandemic diseases, nor is the fear of lasting existence tie together (or at least one different type). But it’s still fun. There are still frauds, severe accusations and hilarious frauds. And this time I wouldn’t need us, I wanted it.
Here is the old memories. It is rarely about this thing, but the time and the place represents. In 2020 we had a lifeline. In 2025 we have a memory that is viable. And sometimes, withdrawing into a game doesn’t happen about living the past, but not about appreciating what extent you and the game have come.
