Is the PS5 the last console for physical game collectors?

Nintendo

The more I dig the title of this game key card for Switch 2, the more I am feeling that the majority of the third -party switches in this generation will be the norm for the majority of physical games. I know that many people were hopeful that the switch would be like a “last hole” for physical games, but it seems to be quite the opposite. From the record I hear, this is not an option for 8GB and 64GB of cartridge for publishers, this is a choice between the game key card or 64GB cartridges (it has not been confirmed, just I have heard)

If we look at the recent data of 61 certified switch 2 games so far, about 50 % of them are game key cards:

And I do not expect that the price of 64GB of cartridges will fall dramatically during the switch 2 generation.

Xbox

On the flip side, if we look at the Xbox series consoles, they are completely away from the disk drive and about 48 48 % on this console are completed without any patch on the physical game disk (60 % if you join sports with some offline functionality with insects or games)

Edit: Dustplay has only tested 42 titles for Xbox, so stats may vary in terms of tested games

The Xbox Series X -50GB Blu -ray (BD -50) is limited to discs so this is a huge factor why we do not see the maximum physical game sent for the Xbox Series X for PS5.

It seems clear that the Xbox is moving completely than physical sports, and I expect that there is no option for a disk drive for the next generation.

PlayStation

When it comes to physical gaming condition, the play station is in the best place, but it is clear that the direction they are entering.

If we look at the figures, about 70 70 % of the physical PS5 games are completed on the disk that does not require the internet download, and if you have a game that contains insects in the disk version or requires online for some components of the game.

It is being said, Sony seems to be clearly moving towards a priority to the disk drive. In order to start the generation, the digital only between selling SKUs, requires an online connection to activate the disk drive with PS5 slim/pro (it may require DRM things), and selling the PS5 professional without a disk drive makes it clear that the shift is started for them. I will do May be Expect another generation where they offer a disk drive, but I do not expect them to offer PS6 SKU, which includes a disc drive a console console in the box, which will make the publishers some extent by offering a full physical version or physical version.

What are your thoughts? Is PS5 the last console for physical collectors? Is the time now to stop worrying about physical sports/protection and embrace the digital future? Are you surprised that Nintendo’s new platform is quickly removed from the real physical release?
