Alto Nights saw Robert de Nero playing against anyone other than himself, who saw the dual role of notorious crime owners Frank Coastlo and Vito Genoos.
It is a story of childhood friendship that is based on the true history of the fall of the American mafia, bitter enmity and treachery. De Nero, of course, is not a stranger to the genre, who has acted in the biggest gangster films ever – Goodfillus, Irishi, casino bases, and Godfather Part 2, to say some names – nor is the author of the film. The script for Alto Nights is done by Nicholas Palegi, who is an experienced Crime Reporter, who writes screenplay for Goodfellas and Casino with Martin Scores (and also written his source content).
“(Producer) Arun Winclar called me and asked me, he said he had a script, if I read it,” remember De Nero when we meet him in London and his co -star debara to talk about the film. “Nick Palegi wrote her and Barry Levison was going to instruct her.”
Although professional orientation with De Nero’s film is clear, it is surprising that it is named after Alto Nights, which is named after the Old Social Club in Little Italy, New York City.
“So I read it, and of course IT was very curious about it, and we met and talked,” De Nero added. “And one of the things I asked Nick is why he used Alto Nights. I said, ‘I don’t know if you know, but I know this place. I was teenage when I was hanged there.” And so he said that he would have used it for the story, he knew himself, because he wrote a huge piece on Little Italy in the early 70s, about which I told Marti Scoresi and said, ‘You should read it.’ It was a very accurate, terrific piece, he knew about the world, social clubs, but he said.
While Costlo works as the lead role of the film, he is a shade by De Nero’s second character: Genoos. As De Nero explained, it was contacted about playing Coastilo before, and naturally the concept of playing both thugs was later born.
De Nero says, “The idea of playing the two, Arun Wincler revealed the idea when we talked about the script.” How about playing the two parts? ” “It was not an immediate idea. This was the thing when we were wondering who would play – they were offering me to Coastlo – who would play Genius. He went through some names and then Arun said, ‘Perhaps you should try it.’ I thought, ‘Well, let me think about it.’
