Sony has raised the price of the PlayStation 5 in some markets

Sony is increasing the price of PlayStation 5 in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, EMEA, and the UK.

The Japanese company said the decision was made in response to a “challenging economic environment”.

“With the backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and volatility exchange rates, the SIE has decided to raise the PlayStation 5 console’s proposed retail price (RRP) in selected markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand. Reads a blog post.

The PS5 Digital Edition will increase € 50 in Europe to 499.99. In the UK, the same console will now retail in 9 429.99.

In Australia, the cost of the PS5 digital edition will increase from $ 649.95 to $ 749.95. The standard PS5 with the disk drive will now be more than 799.95 retail in 9 829.95.

The final increase in prices will be in New Zealand, where the cost of standard PS5 with PS5 digital editions and disk drive will be $ 859.95 and $ 949.95 respectively.

Sony noted that consumers in the EMEA region may also be asked to pay higher price for hardware, but can be ignored by providing online solid prices information.

PS5 Pro RRP is currently not changed. Sony has also reduced the price of its external disk drive accessories.
