“And this season was difficult because it was very driven by this traumatic event: Joel died,” said Mazin. “And once Joel’s death, it is so large and effective that you do not have enough scope to roam some roads, you really need to stick to what happens as a result, as well as what has resulted.
“But I think in the next season, we will probably have a bit more flexible. And you know, we like a side trip in Indonesia, it’s one of our favorite things, so maybe you know, Joel and Tommy are terrorizing the countryside, we will never know.”
Dirkman said that he would never have guessed that the show would end Joel’s childhood, as he did in Episode 6 of Season 2.
“You can’t predict these things,” says Dirkman. This emotion was later resonated by the Mazin when discussing what is going to happen in Season 3.
“I am experienced enough to know that in two weeks, we can have a different idea in two weeks, how it should go,” says Mazin. “All I can say is that we have not seen the last cataline diver and we have not seen the last part of Bella Ramsey, and we have not seen the last part of Isabella Mercedes, and we have not seen the last of many people who have died in the story.”
