10 years ago, most of the car buyers may not have given the Integrated operating system (OS) a second thinking. Today, it has become an important part of the modern driving experience-and can be a Mac or Brake feature for tech lovers. The best vehicle driver allows the driver to develop his experience, and gives you the freedom on what apps you use and how you want to communicate with the system, and one of the most impressive developments in this place is BMW, the German car maker of the luxury company is the latest and latest example.
The BMW has now been in front of the Infinity and the Car OS Game for decades, with the release of the original ID Ario system in 2001. Since then, the introduction of mainstream electric cars, phone -based infections and extremely fast processors has completely changed the world of automotive, and which automatic makers are able to achieve.
BMW has deployed a modern tech such as heads -up display and surrounding cameras in its vehicles for decades, and the company’s latest IDrive 9 system stands between rivals for its simple and faster interface. I’ve been spending the past two weeks with company cars, including mini -coaches and BMW 218 gran coops. At this time it is easy to appreciate the BMW infection approach. Among the legendary legendary fiction -makers of BMW, Edrio 9 is unique to its speed and how it decreases, in which you provide all the features you needed without unnecessary screens and menos.
And this time is with Idroev 9, which has made me very excited for 2026, when the company will give a new shape to the digital experience in the car with a ground -breaking OS, called the operating system X.
A smooth infotining system
Before we reach it, it is valuable to visit BMW’s existing Idrive 9 OS immediately, which is already impressive. It is equipped with 5g contacts for apps and navigation, which in turn results in faster, more accountable experience than the infotinment screen when accessing online services.
During my time with the BMW 218 Gran Copa and Mini Country Man, it was most noticeable when the music was in line from apps or playing videos from streaming services. Loading was very fast and felt smooth – as if I was using a laptop or PC.
Although it may be desirable to plug your phone and present its integrated apps on the center screen, BMW has made significant progress in creating an experience that completely eliminates the need to work as a middleman. This is a point in which many drivers will appreciate, especially those who do not like their phone maps apps, and instead use the BMW navigation app for all its features (more on it). BMW’s morals with ID ario is not only to make your car another gadget, but also to provide you with features that are genuinely useful and improve driving experience.
I will often use the BMW and MINI’s built -in navigation system, as they were much more comprehensive than the phone -based OS use. The next turn, for example, reflect the car headup display, and when I need to change the streets, the front camera will be mobilized on the center screen, which will immediately clarify my driving directions in a non -equality manner.
An excellent example of how IDrive 9 brings attention to the user is with the ability to assign a shortcut. Swipe below the upper part of the center screen, no matter what app you open, a new (or updated) BMW and you will be offered with a four -slot menu. Each slot can be bound to choose your feature, which you quickly adapt to your driving experience.
I quickly like this feature because it really empowers the driver. There is no mess in the menu layers to find specific functions and, but also, you can only improve the driving experience for yourself. Stored radio stations, locations, phone numbers and even specific sub -nanses are bound to these shortcuts. Getting ready access to parts of the infotining system that you use frequently is a wonderful idea – and that keeps your eyes on the road as it prevents you from diving into menu screens.
None of this is to suggest that it is difficult to visit the BMW’s OS-in fact, it is more than ahead of most rivals. At the bottom of the center screen there is a permanent bar of infotation options (the steering wheel is in position without creating too much distance between your hands and the display), which can quickly pull music, navigation, phone, car settings and app menos.
There is also a dedicated button for climate settings, but Idroev 9 also has worked in the aforementioned bar under climate control, so you do not get out of the road while turning the Ericon.
In addition, BMW’s strong phone apps are also noteworthy. My BMW and mini -connected apps allow the driver to check my navigation route from afar, check the EV battery or fuel level (or, in the plugin hybrid), quickly unlock the air conditioning settings and the lock and the car, it is a pleasant and uncomfortable.
I liked to be able to check the current status of mini -countryman while standing and recharging, and it is extremely welcome to be able to send direct instructions to a car – especially if you are planning a long journey and wanting to make the factor in fuel stops or charging stations.
So far my favorite feature is the ability to move your car forward and back from the outside of the car using the phone app. It is available with a clean BMW model, and is perfect for getting a car out of the hard places of the parking lot. You can also go to Calis and add your car key with a BMW digital key plus to your Apple or Google Wallet.
Idrive offers 9 additional features when subscribed to MINI connected or BMW -connected drive packages, which include access to these built -in navigation information and downloadable apps (such as spots and select games) in more detail through the BMW’s Ericonol System. Of course, you can still use the phone -based operating system for music playback, but when using install apps you will have the best integrated experience.
The operating systems in the latest BMW and MINI vehicles are indefinitely well-known of the class-and with the operating system X, information screens in the company’s car are going through the largest in automotive history.
In 2026, the operating system X will debut all the new BMW IX3 Electric SUV, and will also come to other models over time. Although all eligible BMW models will eventually get an operating system upgrade to OSX, the after -2026 models will get the feature of epic new panoramic ideology.
Develops panoramic ideology on the company’s headup display tech, which is much larger and better than ever, by displaying important information and infection of the windscreen, spreading the entire driving information and infection. These include the current speed, the oodometer, the remaining range (and the battery capacity), navigation and climate information. It looks almost holographic but in fact, it is a far -reaching screen across the dashboard.
A center screen is introduced with the same easy -to -grip user interface, but the device cluster has been completely transferred to panoramic view. Supporting the change of this design is a newly designed steering wheel that aims to be easier and more intuitive, which only focuses on the delivery of features that actually requires when driving.
Although this design innovate on car infotation with a new display and information management, BMW still keeps in mind the safety, ensuring that no additions or changes are hindering driving experience. Traditional controlled steering wheel, such as Billiankar and Windscreen wiper poles, live behind the wheel, and changing both ignition and gear is separate from the screens.
This is an interesting time for BMW, in which the company’s upcoming All -Electric ‘Ni Kalisi’ is offered to restore cars, while still offering extraordinary limits, performance and luxury for which the German car maker is famous.
