US federal judge on Meta’s AI copyright fair use argument: ‘You are dramatically changing, you might even say obliterating, the market for that person’s work’

Comedian Sarah Silverman and two other authors filed Copyright violations In 2023, against the meta platforms and the Openi, the pirate version of their work was accused of being used without permission to train AI language models. Meta has then argued that such use comes under the theory of fair use (Through the Reuters), But it seems that US Federal District Judge Vince Chhibria has been less affected by defense.

“You have companies that use copyright materials to produce a product that is capable of manufacturing an unlimited number of competitive products,” Chhbia told Meta’s lawyers in San Francisco last Thursday.
